Well, I tried Side Street again, and was quite happy with the results. I went for the old faithful and had a hamburger – the South of the Brewery bruger, with guacamole, pepper jack cheese and strips of fried tortilla. All in all, it was one of the better restaurant burgers I've had in a while – the meat patty was easily 2 inches thick, and cooked to order – medium. I can't believe it. There are so few places that will still cook a burger anything but well, no matter how you actually order it. The burger was juicy, and the buns were extremely tasty – a sourdough bun, grilled just right, and perfect with the burger. It was just like Fuddrucker's used to be.
On top of the good burger, the beer was excellent. A hoppy IPA, with a great balance of noble (not sure which) and Cascade hops, and the great Brown Ale, which I think could also pass for an IPA – maybe an IBA. All that, and $1.25 each during happy hour. You can't beat that.
So, my last trip was redeemed with a much better visit this time. Jaime enjoyed her pecan crusted chicken breast, and the portions were huge, and Keith even got the shudder brat sandwich, but the sausage looked a bit less Ekrich like this time.
So now I know – it's burger or bust at Side Street Brewing.
